What is a favicon?

The favicon is the small icon that represents your site: in browser tabs, bookmarks, Google search results, a phone's home screen, or a web app's splash screen. It is a tiny but ubiquitous part of your brand — a site without a favicon instantly looks unfinished.

Which files do you need in 2026?

Good news: far fewer than before. The modern recommended set fits in a handful of files: a multi-size favicon.ico at the root for compatibility, an adaptive SVG favicon for modern browsers, a 180×180 Apple Touch icon for iOS, and two PNG icons (192 and 512 pixels, including a “maskable” version) declared in the web manifest for Android and PWAs. LFFavicon generates exactly this set — and nothing else: no Windows tiles or obsolete icons cluttering your project.

Why is LFFavicon free?

LFFavicon is part of the Ludovic Frank group, which runs several free web services (LFQR, LFColors, LFGitignore…) as well as paid products such as ViteUneTable and Coupéo. The free tools are our showcase: they demonstrate our know-how and spread the word about the group. And since all of LFFavicon's processing happens in your browser, the service costs almost nothing to run — so it can stay free, with no intrusive ads and no data selling.

Where do my images go?

Nowhere: they stay in your browser. Resizing, ICO conversion, zip creation… everything runs locally on your machine thanks to modern web technologies. No file is uploaded, no account is required, and closing the tab erases everything.
